Program Description:

Occupational Therapists focus on client participation and performance in occupations (activities).  The OT may modify the environment and/or activity demands, teach performance skills and/or help to remove any personal barriers in overall functioning in occupations (activities).

Occupational Therapists help clients develop positive identities and ensure a sense of hope that allows clients to achieve their highest possible potential.

  • Body mechanics in the home

  • Education of lifting and carrying techniques

  • Promote independence in the home

  • Energy conservation techniques

  • Pain management

  • Referral to community resources

  • Training in the activities of daily living

  • Uses of devices and adaptations

  • Mental Health rehabilitation

  • Developing life skills

  • Assist in accessing funding through various programs (i.e. ADP, RRAP, NIHB)

  • Assess transfer techniques and mobility issues

Program Description:

Speech Services helps clients of all ages to overcome and prevent communication problems and difficulties with swallowing.  

Communication difficulties in the areas of language, speech, voice, and fluency may involve trouble producing sounds, words and sentences; understanding or listening to the speech of others; and the use of reading and writing skills (literacy).

When to Access Speech Services

If you or a loved one:

  • Notice that many people have trouble understanding you

  • Use speech which is very different from that of others of the same age, sex and background

  • Use speech or language that draws attention to how you talk rather than what you’re saying

  • Feel your voice is too high, low, harsh or hoarse

  • Find you hesitate often, repeat, or prolong sounds when speaking

  • Avoid communicating with others

  • Are concerned about your speech

  • Have difficult swallowing food or liquid

Services Offered:

  • Assessment and management of speech and language, feeding/swallowing difficulties

  • Set treatment goals with family and caregivers; determine and provide care plans to meet these goals

  • Develop and monitor programs carried out by other care providers (including Communicative Disorders Assistants)

  • Provide consultation, individual or group therapy in clinic or in the home

  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, dietitians, teachers, psychologists, occupational therapists, educational assistants, personal support workers and other care providers

Program Description:

Physiotherapy promotes wellness, mobility and independent function. Physiotherapists understand how the body moves, what keeps it from moving and how to restore function.

The physiotherapist will assess your condition and then propose a treatment plan unique to you.  Your active participation is essential for success.

  • Therapeutic exercises

  • Education about your condition

  • Hands-on manual therapy techniques

  • Postures and gait retraining

  • Electrical modalities and acupuncture

  • Manage sprains and strains of joints and muscles

  • Assistance with recovery after surgery

  • Managing the physical complications of cancer and its treatment

  • Pre/post-natal care and other women's conditions

  • Managing conditions such as arthritis, neurological disorders, cardiac and respiratory disorders

Intake/Referral Process:

Due to the overwhelming demand for services in the community, clients are only eligible to access Six Nations Physiotherapy Services if they have exhausted all other medical insurance avenues and will need to provide evidence that they have no other options. Please call 519-445-4779
